XBOX GLITCH

An Online competition and alternate reality game created to launch the Xbox One. Aimed squarely at the hardcore gamers, Xbox wanted these most dedicated of players to know this is still their platform.

The game began with a set of clues hidden inside a one second glitch embedded into the Xbox One TV ad. Pausing revealed clues in the freeze frames. Taking it online, players were sent down the rabbit hole hunting for more clues, stumbling over red herrings and deciphering coded messages across the internet and inside the very fabric of sites.

A mysterious hacker who communicated with players as they dug deeper, set-up a thriller-esque plot and helped carry the players along, immerse them into the world and build a strong sense of progression and suspense, but instead of following the hero or playing in the third person, this story made protagonists out of the players.

In the end only one player would be allowed to solve the very last puzzle and claim their prize. That lucky individual was given one last challenge they wouldn’t forget.
